The Iran nuclear deal demands the Obama administration is highly confident we have a secure intelligence presence in that country.
So why the deal? To show Iran, and other Islamic nations, that the US might trust them as far as we can throw a piano. As our military hones its anti-terrorist capabilities with drones, electronic warfare and the like, we’d like to move relations between us, Iran and the Arabs from absolute distrust to a mutual wariness, i.e. “we’ll talk, but keep your hands on the dashboard”. The goal: to cool the general temperature and prevent a nuclear arms race in the region.
Risky business, to be sure. but we can’t bomb our way out of this one. The Muslims nations won’t “learn their lesson’. Yes, Iran supports terrorism, but the greater danger is nuclear war in the Middle East.
